Description
Ben and Jasmine are among a group of students on a school trip to the Barbican theater when the building is sealed by a sudden fire alarm. What appears to be a fire is actually a horde of alien, spider-like creatures that swarm through the corridors, attacking people and turning them into vicious killers. Trapped inside, the kids must fight to survive and find a way out before the creatures turn everyone against them.
Quick Summary
If you want a story that mixes spooky sci-fi with laugh-out-loud moments, "Crawlers" hits the mark. Eight kids on a school trip to the theater end up trapped with a newly-released alien creature that oozes, crawls, and seems to be hunting them, and the way they band together, using clever tricks and a bit of goofy banter, makes the terror feel manageable for younger readers. The pacing is snappy, chapters are short, and Sam Enthoven drops in jokes that keep the mood light even when the alien's slime is dripping down the aisle, which is why reluctant readers often power through it in a few sittings. It's perfect for kids who love a good monster-in-the-school-trip adventure and who might also enjoy the humor-filled chills of "Goosebumps" or the teamwork vibe of "The Last Kids on Earth." Parents will appreciate that the scares are more thrilling than graphic, the language stays clean, and the story wraps up with a satisfying, not-too-dark conclusion.
