Quick Summary

If you're into adventure stories with lots of heart, this one's for you. Ellie Lancaster and her crew of fellow orphans find themselves in a race against the clock when the seas literally part to reveal a hidden empire, giving them a direct path to the Enemy's City and the chance to stop a massive war before it starts. The book pulses with constant action and close calls, and there's a real sense of kids being brave and clever in ways that feel earned rather than convenient. Violence appears throughout the narrative, so it's worth noting that this one's better suited for older middle graders who can handle intense moments. It's book three in a series, though you can jump in here if you're curious about the world first there's just enough context to get your bearings. Readers who love stories like The War That Saved My Life or Hatchet, where kids face huge challenges and grow because of it, will find plenty to sink their teeth into here.
