Skookum Sal, Birling Gal

"Skookum Sal, Birling Gal" is about an eleven-year-old girl named Sal who wants to follow in her family's tradition of log birling, a sport practiced by her father, brother, and ancestors before them. Despite being told she is too young and too small, Sal convinces her father to teach her the skills needed to be a log birler. Through practice and perseverance, Sal develops the strength, balance, and technique required to compete in the Land's End Loggers' Sports Day, where she faces the challenge of competing against male log birlers.
