Quick Summary

The Vanishing Thieves drops the Hardy boys into Los Angeles where they team up with a Canadian teen searching for a missing rare coin but the case quickly spirals into something much bigger and more dangerous than any of them bargained for. Kids who like puzzle-solving mysteries will get a kick out of how Frank and Joe piece together clues and work as a team, and the LA setting gives the story an exciting change of scenery from the brothers' usual Bayport hometown. There's a good mix of action and suspense here, with enough tension to keep pages turning but nothing too scary or intense for the MG crowd. The story also sneaks in a little education about coin collecting and appraising without feeling preachy about it. If your kid's looking for a solid mystery adventure that's the right length for middle graders not too short, not too long this one hits that sweet spot, and it's a great entry point if they haven't read many Hardy Boys books before.
