Measure for Measure

Measure for Measure is a Shakespearean drama set in Vienna where the Duke temporarily leaves the city's governance to the strict deputy Angelo, who enforces an old law against sexual relations and sentences Claudio to death for impregnating his fiancée. When Claudio's sister Isabella, a novice nun, pleads for mercy, Angelo attempts to coerce her into sexual submission, leading the Duke, in disguise, to orchestrate a series of trickery that exposes Angelo's hypocrisy and ultimately restores order. The play explores themes of justice, mercy, and the balance between law and compassion in a good government.
