Kate's Light: Kate Walker at Robbins Reef Lighthouse

Kate's Light tells the true story of Kate Walker, one of the first women on the Eastern seaboard to serve as a lighthouse keeper. Living alone at the isolated Robbins Reef Lighthouse in New York Harbor at the turn of the century, Walker spent over three decades tending the light and guiding ships safely past dangerous shoals. After her husband passed away, she convinced the Lighthouse Board that she could handle the demanding work on her own. Her determination and dedication allowed her to maintain this vital role during a time when women rarely held such positions.
