Quick Summary

If you're looking for a funny middle-grade adventure that doesn't take itself too seriously, this one's a blast. Two siblings decide their yellow lab Buster has what it takes to be a Coast Guard hero, so they "enlist" him complete with a tiny uniform and hijinks basically follow from there. There's also a spy subplot where they stumble onto a coded Nazi message, which adds just enough tension to keep things exciting without getting too dark for the age group. It's got that goofy, anything-can-happen energy that'll appeal to kids who like series like "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" or "Dog Man," but with a World War II backdrop that actually teaches a bit about history along the way. A heads-up for parents: the book does contain some dated racial language that was common in the era it depicts, so it's worth reading alongside your kid or at least having a conversation about it. Fans of silly animal stories mixed with real-world adventure will probably zip through this one it's quick, punchy, and Buster the lab is honestly the star of the whole thing.
