Quick Summary
If you're looking for a survival story that doesn't sugarcoat how tough things can get, this one's for you. Set in prehistoric times, it follows a boy with a bad leg who gets left behind when his tribe moves on yes, it's that harsh and then teams up with a girl who's been stolen from another group. What really makes it work is how these two completely different kids have to figure out how to trust each other while battling freezing temperatures, hunger, and real danger. It has that same raw, stick-it-to-the-elements feeling you get in Hatchet, except the characters start with even less going for them. Kids who like stories about underdogs, finding your place, or stories where characters have to grow will probably fly through this. There's some genuinely tense moments and sad parts, so it's not a light read, but it's the kind of book that sticks with you.
