Description

In this picture book, Ossiri, a Traveller girl, makes her own musical instrument from a willow branch and recycled objects. Although she plays it enthusiastically, the instrument makes a terrible noise. Despite warnings not to wake the ogre who lives in the hills, Ossiri climbs away from camp to practice, and the story explores whether her music will wake the ogre and if he will appreciate her playing. The book, co-authored by Katharine Quarmby and told by a Romani storyteller, offers insight into Travelling lifestyles and cultures.
