Description

When their dad invents a pair of flying shoes, his children Ruby and Bear suddenly find themselves in the middle of a high-stakes competition. Their dad's greedy boss, Wendy Wedge, will stop at nothing to claim the Golden Shoe Award, and she knows the shoes are her key to victory. To save their dad and keep the shoes out of her clutches, Ruby and Bear must outwit a bully, sneak into a shadowy corporation, and pull off a daring rescue before time runs out.

Quick Summary

If your kid loves funny books with lots of action and silly moments, this one's a winner. Ruby and Bear have gotten themselves into a wild situation trying to help their dad, and the whole story revolves around some seriously cool flying shoes that a sneaky boss wants to steal for a competition. Liz Pichon, who's famous for the Tom Gates books, writes with the same goofy energy and fast pacing that keeps kids turning pages. The story has some genuinely tense moments too, especially when things look really bad for Dad, so there's actual stakes mixed in with all the humor. It's perfect for kids in 4th through 8th grade who want something fun and quick to read, and it's especially great for kids who might be hesitant about longer books since it moves along at a clip. Parents will appreciate that while there's adventure and a little bit of danger, it's all wrapped in silliness and a heartwarming sibling bond that feels real. If your kid likes the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series or other humorous middle-grade fiction, they'd probably devour this too.
