Description

When the dragons emerge to terrorise the village of Shenzing, the legendary Dragon Warriors are summoned for help. Hajur answers the call, but in exchange for his protection he requests a boy to become his follower.

Quick Summary

If your kid's into stories about dragons, this one's got plenty of fire-breathing action mixed with a really sweet mentor-student relationship at its core. The world-building around this village called Shenzing feels fresh, and there's enough danger and tension to keep pages turning without being too intense for younger middle graders. The protagonist gets pulled into this ancient warrior's world and has to figure out if he wants that life or not, which gives the book some heart alongside all the beast-slaying. Parents will appreciate that it's adventure-focused with themes of courage and loyalty, though there's a bit of scary dragon stuff that might be intense for the sensitive bunch. It'd appeal to kids who love things like *Eragon* or Percy Jackson-type stories where ordinary kids get thrown into legendary circumstances. At around 54,000 words it's a solid chunky read that feels rewarding without being overwhelming, and the AR level of 5.9 means it's accessible but still has enough depth to feel like a real accomplishment when finished.
