Description

Raised by dragons in the land of Tulay after the DragonQueen's Jewels of Power were stolen and the dragons were exiled, Tia discovers that her mother is one of the sister-witches who committed the theft. In this second adventure, she must recover the opal that gives its holder the ability to change shape, a task that forces her to confront the cruel witch Yordis, who prowls the land in the form of a bear. With the help of her DragonBrother, Tia faces dangerous enemies and tests her loyalty to her dragon family as she fights to prove herself a true DragonChild.

Quick Summary

If your kid loved the first book in this series, this sequel delivers more of what worked Tia is back with another dangerous quest, this time hunting an opal that lets you change shapes, which sounds super cool but means facing off against the wicked witch Yordis who roams around as a scary bear. It's a quick read at around 11,500 words, perfect for kids who want something exciting without being overwhelmed by length, and the action moves fast enough to keep even reluctant readers turning pages. Middle graders who enjoy fantasy adventures, magic quests, and a brave female protagonist will find plenty to like here, and the witch's shape-shifting twist adds a fun, creepy element that feels more thrilling than truly scary for most kids this age. Parents will appreciate that it's a self-contained story with clean content, making it a solid choice for bedtime reading or classroom libraries. Fans of "Deltora Quest" or other fast-paced fantasy series will likely gravitate toward this one as well.
