Description

Samantha is back for another adventure with her beloved mustang, the Phantom Stallion, in the Phantom Stallion series. When a sudden lightning storm sparks a fire that engulfs the pasture of the wild-horse sanctuary, the horses including the Phantom's herd panic and bolt. With the flames spreading fast, Samantha must rally her courage and work quickly to guide the mustangs to safety before the fire consumes them. The tense rescue effort tests her bond with the horses and highlights the dangers that loom over the sanctuary.

Quick Summary

Lightning tears across the sky and ignites the pasture at the wild-horse sanctuary, sending the mustangs into a frantic dash for safety and forcing the protagonist teenager Jess, along with her loyal friends to spring into action, racing against the flames to save the beloved Phantom and his herd. The story crackles with the kind of tense, real-world danger that makes you hold your breath, yet it's balanced by warm, sometimes funny moments between Jess and her classmates as they tackle barn chores, gossip about the new kid in town, and share a love for horses that feels completely genuine. Readers who are into animal rescues, especially horse-crazy middle-graders, will find plenty of heart-pounding scenes and details about how a sanctuary operates, making the book a quick, informative read that doesn't feel like a textbook. While the fire is the main drama, the story also weaves in the subtle tension of a neighboring rancher trying to buy the land, giving Jess a reason to stand up for what she believes in and discover her own inner strength. If you've already fallen for the Phantom Stallion series, this installment feels familiar and satisfying, and if you're new to horse stories it reads like a standalone adventure that hooks you from the first page, much like the classic "Black Stallion" but with a modern, relatable voice.
