Description
Mansfield Park follows Fanny Price, a shy girl from a poor family in Portsmouth who is taken to live with her wealthy relatives at the Bertram estate, where she is constantly reminded of her lower social status. She finds her only ally in her cousin Edmund Bertram, while the arrival of the sophisticated Henry and Mary Crawford during her uncle's absence introduces London glamour and reckless flirtation to the otherwise quiet household. The novel explores themes of social position, morality, and personal integrity through Fanny's observations of the Bertram family's moral decline.
