Quick Summary

If you like detective stories with a bit of grit and a lot of heart, this one's for you. Spenser, the Boston private investigator, takes on a case that looks simple find a runaway teen but quickly turns into a dangerous hunt through the city's underbelly, and you'll feel the tension as he uses both his wits and his fists to protect her. The book's quick pacing and snappy dialogue make it a page-turner, and the way Spenser balances loyalty to his friends with his own code of honor gives the story a surprisingly emotional punch. There's also plenty of humor in Spenser's banter with his sidekick Hawk, so it's not all doom and gloom. It's a good fit for teens who love mysteries like the ones in the "Hardy Boys" series but want something with a bit more edge and a Boston backdrop. Parents can rest easy knowing there's no explicit content, just some tense moments that'll keep readers on their toes, and the underlying message about what it means to stand by your family will resonate with both kids and adults.
