Description

Pongwiffy and the Spell of the Year is a bind-up of two books from Kaye Umansky's Pongwiffy series. In the first story, Pongwiffy, a witch who lives in a bog, finds an old magic spell to help her win the Spell of the Year Competition, but obtaining the unusual ingredients proves difficult and leads her into trouble. In the second story, bored during endless rain, Pongwiffy decides to plan a holiday, but things do not go as expected. The book is written for middle grade readers (ages 9-12).

Quick Summary

Pongwiffy enters a magical competition to win Spell of the Year, but the weird ingredients she needs land her in hilariously sticky situations. The story is packed with gross-out humor, wacky witchy hijinks, and a lovable grumpy protagonist who stumbles from one magical mess to another while trying to pull off the ultimate spell. If your kid loves the goofy chaos of Diary of Sallie Hester: A Covered Wagon Girl (First-Person Histories) a Wimpy Kid mixed with the magical mishaps of The Worst Witch, they'll be totally hooked. This is perfect for kids in grades 4-6 who enjoy funny, fast-paced stories with lots of personality.
