Description

Kari has always known his mother's warnings about the Snow-Walker Gudrun were more than legend, but when Gudrun steals his sister Signi's soul on the night before her wedding, the threat becomes terrifyingly real. The third book in the Snow-Walker series, The Soul Thieves follows Kari and his friends Jessa, Brochael, Skapti and Hakon as they journey beyond the rainbow bridge into Gudrun's frozen domain, a place from which no traveler has ever returned. They must confront dark sorcery and a cursed slumber that has seized the people of Jarlshold, risking everything to reclaim the stolen soul and break Gudrun's hold on the land.

Quick Summary

If you love a fantasy that mixes a sleepy, dreamlike mystery with real danger, then "The Soul Thieves" will pull you right in. Set in the eerie town of Jarlshold, where everyone is suddenly overcome by an irresistible urge to sleep, the story follows a handful of brave kids who realize the sleep isn't just a weird curse but a trap that hides something far more terrifying when they wake up. The book is the third in the Snow-Walker series, so it builds on the world-building of the earlier books while still being accessible to new readers, and its blend of suspenseful moments, subtle humor, and a dash of folklore makes it a great pick for kids who enjoy magical adventures like those in The Dark Is Rising. There's a little bit of scariness nothing too graphic, but some creepy scenes that will have readers on edge yet the story also has a lot of heart and teamwork that keeps it balanced for middle-grade readers. If you're looking for a page-turner with an intriguing mystery and a hint of the uncanny, this one is worth picking up.
