The Coming of the Surfman

The book tells the story of two rival gangs, the Hammers and the Nails, living in a dismal neighborhood. A mysterious figure called the Surfman arrives and opens a surf shop in the neighborhood. He teaches the members of both gangs how to surf, even though there is no beach nearby. The story focuses on how the Surfman brings together the rival gangs through their shared interest in surfing.
