Description
Surviving a massive hurricane, teenager Tabby finds herself hunted by unknown pursuers while racing to reach her old friend Jago, hoping the reunion will answer the questions about the strange experiments she saw in the basement of her swim school. Denzi, another survivor, is also searching for the truth, but each time he connects with a fellow survivor that person disappears, and the environmental activist group The Circle claims they triggered the storm. As Tabby and Denzi's paths intersect, they uncover a dangerous conspiracy that challenges everything they thought they knew about themselves and the disaster. The second book in Teri Terry's thriller series, Red Sky Burning continues the high-stakes chase that began in Dark Blue Rising.
Quick Summary
Red Sky Burning picks up right after Tabby barely survived a massive hurricane, and now she's sprinting across a battered coastline, dodging the people who want her gone while hunting for the truth about what really happened. The story is stuffed with tense chase scenes, a dash of humor that crops up in the most unlikely moments, and a thread of friendship that feels both fragile and fierce, making it easy to root for her even when things get really scary. If you liked the first book or enjoy fast-paced survival mysteries with a side of heart, you'll find this one just as addictive, and reluctant readers will appreciate how quickly the chapters move. Parents should know there's a bit of graphic storm damage and some suspenseful confrontations, but nothing that goes beyond what you'd see in a PG-13 movie, so it's fine for most teens. The blend of action, mystery, and emotional beats reminds me a little of The Fifth Wave, though this one feels a bit more intimate and focused on a single protagonist's journey.
