Quick Summary

If you're looking for a fast-paced adventure with real heart, Mary and her granpa's story really delivers. Mary starts off thinking they're just on a random trip to Scotland, but quickly realizes her granpa's gotten himself tangled up with some dangerous people, and suddenly they're on the run across the Isle of Skye with bad guys in pursuit. The relationship between Mary and her granpa is what makes this book stick with you it's complicated and messy and totally believable, which is rarer than you'd think. There's humor woven throughout even the tense parts, which keeps the whole thing from feeling too heavy, though fair warning: there's some strong language in here, so it's probably better suited for older teens rather than younger kids. If you enjoy stories about ordinary people in extraordinary situations, like a kid-version of a heist gone wrong, you'll probably fly through this one.
