Description
Uki, along with his friends Jori, Cole and Kree, must capture the final and most dangerous spirit, Mortix, after already securing Charice on their quest through the world of Podkin One-Ear. Their search leads them to Eisenfell, the greatest city in Hulstland, where they learn Mortix has taken control of Emperor Ash and is plotting to conquer the realm. The adventure is filled with fantasy action and mild peril as the group races to stop the malevolent spirit before it plunges the land into chaos. Illustrated by David Wyatt.
Quick Summary
If your kid's into funny fantasy adventures with plenty of action, this is a solid pick the illustrations by David Wyatt give it a graphic novel feel that makes the pages fly by, and the humor balances out some of the spookier moments nicely. It's the sixth book in the Uki series, so while it technically continues an ongoing story about spirits and quests, each book works well enough on its own that a reader could jump in and follow along. Kids who like books like "Dragon Masters" or "Amulet" will probably gravitate toward this one, especially if they want something with fast pacing and a likeable underdog main character. Parents should know there's fantasy violence (spirit battles, some tense moments), but it's not overly dark just exciting enough to keep middle graders turning pages. The word count is substantial but broken up by those illustrations, so even reluctant readers might find it less intimidating than a typical chapter book.
