Quick Summary
If you've got a kid who's into space stuff and secret missions, Max Jupiter is a solid pick. The premise is immediately fun Max's parents are part of this covert organization protecting Earth, and when they get grabbed, Max has to rely on his wits and some pretty cool gadgets to pull off a rescue. Blake Hoena keeps the pacing tight so the story never drags, which makes it great for reluctant readers who might get intimidated by thicker chapter books. There's just enough humor mixed in with the action to keep things light, even when Max is facing some genuinely tense moments. It's the kind of book that leaves you rooting for a kid who has to grow up fast, and the short length means even hesitant readers can power through it in a sitting or two. Fans of series like "Marty McFly" or anyone who loves a good underdog story will likely devour this.
