Quick Summary

If you've got a middle grader who loves adventure with a little bit of danger mixed in, this one's a solid pick. Four friends stumble upon a baby chimp hiding in an abandoned house, and what starts as a secret rescue mission quickly spirals into a much bigger problem than they bargained for. The boys are relatable and genuinely loyal to each other, which makes their choices feel real even when those choices land them in hot water. There's a nice tension between wanting to do the right thing and the consequences that follow, so it has a bit more substance than a pure action book. It's especially good for kids who like stories like *The Mighty Mars Di* or anything with a mystery underneath the surface. Parents will probably appreciate that there's real heart here these aren't throwaway characters and the AR level sitting at 5.2 means it's accessible but not simplistic. It's the kind of book that keeps a kid turning pages while sneaking in some real emotional weight about friendship and responsibility.
