Description

Ben idolizes his older brother, Sam, but Sam only pays attention when he issues a dare. Unable to resist the challenge, Ben finds himself pulled into a series of increasingly risky tasks shoplifting, drinking, and worse that quickly spiral out of control. As the stakes rise, Ben must decide whether to keep playing Sam's game or find a way out before the dares turn truly dangerous.

Quick Summary

This short book really captures that intense feeling of wanting to impress an older sibling and the trouble that can come from saying "yes" to every dare. Ben looks up to Sam so much that he can't say no, even when the challenges get more and more risky, which makes the story feel relatable for anyone who's ever been caught up in proving themselves to someone they admire. The tension builds in a way that's exciting without being too intense, and it gives kids plenty to think about regarding peer pressure and knowing your own limits. At under 14,000 words, it's a quick read that would work well for reluctant readers or anyone who wants something substantial but not overwhelming. Fans of quick-paced stories about sibling dynamics and everyday adventures would likely connect with this one. Parents should know there's some mild danger and conflict as the dares escalate, but nothing graphic just enough to keep things tense and meaningful.
