Sawbones

Sawbones, by Catherine Johnson, is a middle-grades historical novel set in early-19th-century London. It follows sixteen-year-old Ezra McAdam, an apprentice to a respected surgeon, whose expertise in anatomy and dissection draws him into a dangerous mystery after a break-in at his master's home leads to grave-robbing, body-switching, and murder. When Loveday Finch, the daughter of a magician who suspects her father's death was not accidental, teams up with Ezra, the two uncover a web of intrigue that threatens their lives and the city's medical underworld.
