Description

Bernie Bridges and his friends at the Rotten School are stuck with the new, ultra-strict Mr. Skruloose, who threatens their fun. Determined to bring back their favorite teacher, Mrs. Heinie, they cook up a plan to get rid of the new teacher. As their schemes go hilariously awry, the story turns into a lively early-grade adventure about friendship, mischief, and dealing with a tough authority figure.

Quick Summary

If you've got a kid who thinks school is the worst, this one's for them. Bernie Bridges and his friends are so fed up with their new teacher that they hatch hilariously ridiculous schemes to get rid of her and bring back their favorite, Mrs. Heinie. It's got that classic R.L. Stine humor where kids will be laughing out loud at the over-the-top plots, but there's also a little heart in there when they realize maybe they jumped to conclusions too fast. At just over 11,000 words, it's a quick read that keeps things moving, and the AR level of 2.9 makes it perfect for newly independent readers who want something funny instead of a total challenge. The humor leans into the chaos of kid logic pranks, exaggerated grievances, and that relatable feeling of "this teacher is the worst ever." Fans of the other Goonies books in this series will recognize the crew's dynamic, but it works fine as a standalone too. Parents will appreciate that it's lighthearted mischief with a subtle lesson about not judging people too quickly, and kids will just enjoy the silly energy throughout.
