Macbeth

Beverley Birch retells Shakespeare's Macbeth for middle-grade readers, following a Scottish soldier whose hunger for power drives him to murder and madness. Set in medieval Scotland, the story charts his fateful encounter with three witches whose prophecy promises him the throne. As he acts on the prophecy, betrayals and guilt spiral him into a tragic downfall, illustrating the destructive nature of unchecked ambition. The adaptation keeps the drama and tension of the original while using language suited to younger readers.
