Description
In this Project X adventure, a powerful meteorite at the HI-SCI Institute in San Francisco becomes the target of a notorious thief known as the Collector. Team X, a group of young experts, is called in to protect the relic, but the institute's staff greets them with suspicion rather than support. As the Collector moves closer to his goal, the team must use their unique skills to outwit the villain and secure the meteorite before it's stolen.
Quick Summary
Meteorite drops you into a sleek San Francisco lab where a sneaky thief called The Collector is after a powerful space rock, and the story rockets from the first page; at just 4,628 words and an AR level of 4.4, it's a breezy, fast read for middle-graders. Team X, a scrappy group of middle-grade kids, gets called in to stop the theft, but the institute staff give them the cold shoulder, which adds a fun dose of awkward humor. The kids crack codes, rig gadgets, and race through high-tech corridors in a race against The Collector, with a few tense moments and plenty of laughs that keep the pages turning. If your kid loves short, punchy mysteries with a splash of science and a dash of humor, this is a perfect pick especially for reluctant readers who want a quick win in under 5,000 words. Parents will appreciate the lack of graphic violence, the focus on teamwork and curiosity about meteorites, and the fact that it reads a lot like the classic Project X series or the similarly brisk adventure of "The 13-Story Treehouse" for kids who like a fast thrill.
