Hiccup and his friends go to the Meathead Public Library to try and steal a book for Hiccup's father. Book #6.
Quick Summary
If your kid's already into the How to Train Your Dragon movies or books, they'll recognize Hiccup Haddock's signature humor right away. This sixth installment finds Hiccup and his ragtag group of Viking friends attempting to pull off a library heist to steal a book for Hiccup's gruff father, Stoick and let's just say nothing goes according to plan. Cowell has this wonderful way of mixing genuine friendship moments with laugh-out-loud chaos, so even readers who wouldn't normally pick up a "dragon book" get drawn in by the characters' personalities. The story moves fast, the dragon facts are ridiculous in the best way, and there's enough action (and near-death experiences) to keep reluctant readers turning pages. Parents appreciate that it's genuinely funny without being mean-spirited, and there's a surprising amount of heart underneath all the silly dragon-slaying talk. Think of it as a good bridge for kids moving from chapter books into longer middle-grade reads substantial enough to feel like a "real" book, but with that playful tone that makes it go down easy.
