Description

When Jared and his mother drive a young girl home one night, they discover she and her mother are ghosts who want nothing to do with the living. As Jared investigates, he pieces together clues about how the girl died and why her spirit remains. Determined to help, he works to guide her toward the restful place she deserves. This supernatural mystery for middle graders explores friendship across the boundary between life and death.

Quick Summary

If your kid likes ghost stories that are more funny than terrifying, this one's for them. Jared gets a surprise when his mom helps drive home a little girl, only to discover the kid and her mom are actually ghosts and things get even weirder from there. It's a quick read at just under 7,000 words, which makes it perfect for kids who want something spooky but not too intense, or for reluctant readers who need a win without committing to a huge chapter book. The balance of mystery and humor feels a lot like some of R.L. Stine's Goosebumps stories, but with its own quirky charm. There's a sweet message underneath the spooky stuff about helping others even when things get strange, which gives it that extra something parents will appreciate. Middle graders in the 4-8 range who like light scares and quick page-turners will probably ask for the next one in the series.
