Quick Summary
Gina Bellisario's Superhero for President is a fun, fast read about Ellie, who decides to run for class president except her opponent is Dex Diggs, the most annoying kid in school. If your kid loves Diary of a Wimpy Kid or the Who Would Win? series, they'll probably gravitate toward this one right away. The story balances silly humor with real kid-relatable stuff like dealing with a tricky competitor and figuring out how to campaign without resorting to the same underhanded tricks Dex pulls. It's got just enough heart that it doesn't feel like a throwaway book, but the jokes keep it light enough for emerging readers who might otherwise drag their feet. Parents will appreciate that it sneaks in lessons about honesty and playing fair without hitting you over the head with a moral. At around 10,000 words with a 4.2 AR level, it's solidly in that sweet spot for second and third graders who are building confidence in chapter books. If your kiddevours this, send them next to Ivy + Bean another series that nails the funny, friendship-driven school story for the same age group.
