Quick Summary

Jack is a spunky little character who sets off on an adventure to ask the king for a house, and along the way he runs into a whole parade of animals each one funnier and more memorable than the last. The story has that classic fairy tale feel with a modern, warmhearted twist that young kids really respond to, especially when Jack outsmarts the king in the end. Tomie de Paola's signature artwork brings everything to life with bold, cheerful colors that are perfect for reading aloud or sharing at storytime. This one's a great fit for kids in kindergarten through third grade, and at just 422 words it's ideal for early readers who want to feel accomplished, or for parents doing quick bedtime reads. If your kid enjoys "The Gingerbread Man" or similar cumulative tale stories, they'll likely love this one just as much.
