Quick Summary
If your kid loves a story where a young painter fights the odds of a frozen world, Lug: Dawn of the Ice Age is a quick, fun read that mixes prehistoric adventure with plenty of humor. Lug gets kicked out of his clan for being more interested in sketching mammoth tusks than hunting, and he teams up with two loyal friends to discover that a massive ice sheet is bearing down on everyone they love. The book's fast pace and short chapters make it perfect for reluctant readers, while the mix of danger, friendship, and a splash of prehistoric science keeps kids who love history or survival tales hooked. There are a few tense moments a sudden avalanche, a hungry predator but they're balanced with goofy banter and a heartwarming message about using your unique talents to help others. It feels a lot like a kid-friendly version of Jean Craighead George's survival stories, but with a lighter tone and plenty of laughs.
