Description

Beta, the first book in a series by Rachel Cohn, is set on the futuristic island of Io, where wealthy humans are served by enslaved clones. The story follows sixteen-year-old Elysia, a clone created without a soul, who works as a servant and gradually becomes aware of her own emotions and identity. When she learns she is considered a Defect and that discovery by any human could cost her life, she fights to gain freedom while concealing her true nature. The narrative includes sexual situations, violence, and drug use.
