A mysterious virus spreads through Arlington, Virginia, transforming ordinary citizens into criminal masterminds. When the outbreak reaches NERDS headquarters, young agent Flinch must act fast to stop the virus from spreading further. To find a cure, Flinch miniaturizes himself and journeys into the mind of the villain responsible, Heathcliff Hodges. Book #4 in the NERDS series.

Quick Summary

If your kid loves goofy humor mixed with spy gadgets and action, they'll probably eat this one up. Flinch and the rest of the NERDS crew are a quirky bunch of kids who use their nerdy skills to fight crime, and this time they're dealing with a virus that turns regular people into criminal masterminds the kind of premise that makes you laugh while also keeping you on your toes. The standout moment has to be when Flinch has to shrink down and literally enter a villain's brain, which is equal parts gross and exciting in that way kids find irresistible. It's the fourth book in the series, but it works fine as a standalone if you're just dipping in. Parents will appreciate that it's genuinely funny and full of friendship themes, though there's a bit of mild scariness with the virus stuff nothing too intense, but enough to give kids a thrill. If your kid enjoys this, they'd probably also like the "How to Be a (stuff)" series or anything by James Patterson's Middle School books, since they share that same energy of silly plots with short, fast-paced chapters that keep reluctant readers turning pages.
