Description

When Emily's inheritance finally clears, Aunt Hilda becomes her legal guardian and offers to take Jackson under her wing as well, giving the two friends a shot at a stable life. Their hopes are short-lived, however, as Uncle Victor reappears, determined to steal Emily's fortune by any means necessary. Emily and Jackson must stay a step ahead of his schemes, hiding out and using their wits to protect what's rightfully theirs. The story follows their efforts to outmaneuver the greedy uncle while dealing with the everyday challenges of growing up.

Quick Summary

Emily and Jackson find themselves caught in a tug-of-war over a long-lost inheritance when their Aunt Hilda becomes their guardian, but their mischievous Uncle Victor shows up with a plan to snag the money for himself. The story mixes laugh-out-loud moments like Jackson's ridiculous disguises and Emily's quick-witted comebacks with genuine tension as the kids try to outwit a greedy adult. It's a great pick for readers who love sibling teamwork, a dash of mystery, and a pinch of absurdity, especially if they've ever imagined what it'd be like to hide out from a scheming relative. Parents will appreciate that the scares are mild, the humor is kid-friendly, and the story reinforces the value of loyalty and family. If you liked the mix of adventure and humor in "The Bad Guys" by Aaron Blabey, you'll probably enjoy this one too.
