Quick Summary

If your kid loves a good mystery with twists around every corner, the Hardy Boys are back in action in this story set on a movie set, and it's a ton of fun for readers in middle school. Someone keeps pulling dangerous pranks starting with trying to burn down a trailer belonging to Anya, the star of a new teen movie called Deathstalker and Frank and Joe Hardy have to figure out who's behind the mayhem before someone gets seriously hurt. The movie filming angle makes this one feel fresh compared to some of the older Hardy Boys books, since kids get a peek behind the scenes at how movies work while the mystery unfolds. It's a quick read at around 29,000 words, so reluctant readers can finish it without getting overwhelmed, but there's still enough adventure and suspense to keep them turning pages. Parents will appreciate that it's classic mystery-solving goodness without anything too dark or scary just good old-fashioned detective work. If your kid has read other Hardy Boys books, they'll recognize the familiar style, and if they're new to the series, this works as a decent entry point since it's also the start of the Deathstalker Trilogy, so they'll have two more books to jump into if they want more.
