The sisters must work together to outsmart the predator and keep the flock safe.

Quick Summary

If you've got a kid who's just starting to read chapter books, this little Swedish story is a wonderful choice. Three little sisters are thrilled to help care for their aunt's chickens, but when the big red hen goes missing, things get tense in the best way there's real worry and a sweet adventure to follow as they search for her. What I love about this book is how it captures the everyday magic of childhood: simple chores turning into something bigger, the bond between sisters, and a satisfying ending that makes you smile. It's gentle and wholesome without being boring, and the Swedish countryside setting gives it a cozy, storybook feel that's different from most picture books kids encounter. Kids who enjoy animal stories or books about siblings working together will get a lot out of this one, and at an AR level of 3.1 with a short word count, it's totally doable for early readers who want to feel like they're reading a "real" book. If your kiddo loves the adventures of plain and fancy or wants more stories about everyday kid situations, they'll likely adore these three little sisters and their missing hen.
