That Cat Can't Stay

The story is narrated by a young girl who loves cats and watches as her mother brings home stray after stray, despite her father's strong objections to having any cats in the house. After her father finally agrees to let the cats stay, five cats take over his favorite chair, leading him to decide that if the family must have pets, he will bring home a puppy from the pound instead. The book humorously depicts a family's pet adoption dilemma through the perspective of a cat-loving child.
