Description

When Justin discovers an injured fox on his way to school, he knows he has to help it. He soon faces a problem though the Baxter brothers want to hurt the animal, and they'll do anything to get to it. Teaming up with his friend Angie, Justin decides to hide the wounded fox in the one place the bullies won't go: an old haunted barn on the edge of town.

Quick Summary

Justin spots an injured fox on his walk to school and, instead of walking past it, he decides to nurse it back to health but the schoolyard bullies, the Baxter brothers, are determined to get their hands on the animal and hurt it. With his quick-thinking best friend Angie by his side, Justin hatches a plan to hide the fox in an old, supposedly haunted barn that the bullies are too scared to enter, turning the rescue into a secret mission mixed with a little spooky suspense. The story balances the heart-warming teamwork of two friends, the tension of outwitting the bullies, and the mild thrill of a haunted setting, making it a great fit for kids who love animal rescue tales, light mystery, or stories where courage beats fear. It's a short, fast-paced read that shows how compassion and friendship can stand up to bullying, and it's perfect for reluctant readers or anyone who wants a quick adventure that doesn't get too scary. If you've ever enjoyed the mix of animal intrigue and school drama in Carl Hiaasen's *Hoot*, you'll likely find this one just as satisfying.
