Trial-by-Poison

Set in 1888 in a small village in Calabar, Nigeria, the story follows a young West African girl whose mother faces the dangerous trial by poison bean. The girl seeks help from the courageous missionary Mary Slessor, who works to intervene and protect the mother from the deadly custom. The narrative explores the cultural clash between local traditions and the missionary presence in the region. The book is written by Dave Jackson with coauthor Neta Jackson for middle grade readers.
