Sarah

In Orson Scott Card's retelling of the biblical story, the reader follows Sarah from her youth in Ur, where she first meets Abram, through the years of marriage, barrenness, and the divine promise that she will bear a son. As Abram's wife, she contends with the political dangers of their time and the personal struggle of becoming a mother late in life. The novel blends historical detail with a faithful reimagining of the covenant that ultimately shapes the history of a people.
