Quick Summary

If you've got a little one who's just learning to read on their own, this one's a sweet little adventure story that hits the mark. The whole thing follows a tiny duckling who wanders a bit too far from Mom and Dad during a family outing, and the gentle tension of wondering if they'll find each other again keeps young listeners or early readers turning pages. At only 331 words with an AR level of 1.6, it's short enough to not overwhelm a brand-new reader but still has just enough story to feel satisfying. What I love is that it's not overly scary or dramatic it's more of that warm, "everything's going to be okay" kind of story, which makes it perfect for kids who might get anxious about separation. It works equally well as a cozy bedtime read-aloud for the 4-6 crowd or a confident solo read for a kindergartener or first grader. If your kiddo liked "Are You My Mother?" or other animal-family reunion stories, they'll probably gravitate toward this one too.
