Description

Twin sons born to a high priestess one human in form but gifted with dragon magic, the other half-man and half-dragon represent a threat and a hope to a world where dragons have long forbidden involvement in human affairs. Raised apart after a violent birth, the brothers must navigate a realm of political deception and broken ancient pacts as they discover their extraordinary powers. Their intertwined fates hold the key to either restoring balance or unleashing destruction upon the world.

Quick Summary

Margaret Weis brings her signature fantasy worldbuilding to this story about twin brothers navigating completely different lives despite sharing the same family. One twin looks fully human but has dragon magic powers, while the other is literally half-dragon, and the way they each deal with their identity struggles makes for some really relatable moments even in this fantasy setting. The plot throws them into dragon politics and human-dragon tensions, which keeps the action moving while still leaving room for the emotional weight of their brotherly bond. If your kid loves stories about misfits finding their place or is into fantasy creatures with depth, this hits that sweet spot. There's some adventure danger and conflict that comes with dragon territories, but nothing gratuitously scary more exciting than traumatizing. Readers who enjoyed books like "Eragon" or other dragon-centric fantasies will likely gravitate toward this one, though it's got more of a political and family drama angle than a pure action quest. It's a good choice for grades 9-12 and reads easily for its level, so even reluctant readers can get into it without feeling like they're struggling.
