Description

When Cassidy, Jeff, and Nina buy an antique violin and a decorative bowl from a sale at the old Blackburn Mansion to use as props for their class production of Old Yeller, they think they've found the perfect set pieces. Instead, two mischievous ghosts slip into their backpacks and follow them to school, determined to steal the spotlight from the play. In Stage Fright, the trio must figure out how to send the spirits packing before the curtain rises, or the performance could become a real supernatural show.

Quick Summary

If your kid loves a mix of spooky and silly, this is a great pick three friends find some amazing props at a yard sale, but turns out those came from a haunted mansion and the ghosts aren't ready to share the stage. The characters are really likeable and the humor keeps things light even when things get a little creepy, which makes it perfect for younger kids who want something a bit scary without being too intense. It's a quick read at around 8,000 words with a 4.0 reading level, so newly independent readers can power through it pretty fast. Kids who are into theater, plays, or just friendship stories will find a lot to enjoy here, and the ghost twist gives it that extra "one more chapter" hook. Parents will appreciate that it's wholesome fun with a good message about teamwork and not letting others push you around, even if those others are pushy spirits. If your young reader liked "Tales from the Haunted Mansion" or enjoy spooky-but-fun chapter books, they'd probably tear through this one.
