Description

Wally McDoogle is your typical disaster-prone kid, but even he wasn't prepared for what happened when he broke his mom's expensive new vase. To avoid the consequences, he gets involved with Junior Whiz Kid's wild experiments, which somehow leave him with enormous ears. Now Wally must save the city from a giant flying snail and a tarantula the size of a house all while learning that admitting mistakes and telling the truth is harder than any monster he might face.

Quick Summary

If your kid loves silly, over-the-top comedy where everything that can go wrong absolutely does, this one's a winner. Wally McDoogle is the kind of narrator who gets himself into the most ridiculous situations after accidentally breaking an expensive vase, he stumbles into a wild science experiment with Junior Whiz Kid and suddenly finds himself dodging a giant flying snail and a tarantula the size of a house. The book is packed with absurdist humor that younger middle graders eat up, and at around 16,000 words with a 4.6 reading level, it's accessible without feeling babyish. There's a fair amount of mild peril (giant bugs, scary experiments) that keeps things exciting but nothing too dark or intense just pure goofy fun. It reminds me a lot of the "My Weird School" series in that it's quick, funny, and great for kids who want something light and entertaining. Perfect for reluctant readers who need a book that doesn't feel like homework, or for kids who just want to laugh out loud.
