Quick Summary

If your kid loves horses or ponies, they'll absolutely adore this story about Cricket, a seal brown pony who gets swept up into an unexpected adventure. Two New Yorkers discover Cricket and realize this spirited little pony might be just what they need to bring the game of polo to America which is honestly a pretty cool piece of history most kids (and adults!) don't know anything about. The story has just enough action to keep younger readers turning pages, but it's short enough that reluctant readers can actually finish it and feel proud. Parents will appreciate that it's wholesome and teaches a little something about persistence and finding your place, without being preachy about it. Kids who enjoyed other pony stories like "Black Beauty" will find Cricket similarly lovable and memorable. At around 2,200 words, it's the perfect length for kids transitioning from picture books to chapter books substantial enough to feel like a "real" book, but not so long that it overwhelms.
