Quick Summary
Wheel of Time fans who have made it to book ten already know they love these characters, and this one lets you spend real time with them the plotting and waiting can feel slow if you're not invested, but the character moments make it worth it for series loyalists. Mat keeps things entertaining with his sarcastic edge even when he's stuck in frustrating situations, and there's plenty of Aes Sedai scheming and Two Rivers folks doing their stoic, honorable thing if that kind of thing hooks you. The romance subplot gets more page time here, which some readers love and others find tedious, so if you've liked the slower burns in earlier books you'll probably enjoy this, but if you were already skim-reading the Perrin sections before, this might test your patience. It's definitely not a standalone read you need all nine books before this one and the pacing is more "checking in with people you care about" than "things are exploding constantly," so give it to a kid who likes getting lost in a long series and doesn't need every chapter to end with a cliffhanger.
