Description

Liza is convinced third grade is going to be great, until she gets to school that first day and everything starts going wrong.

Quick Summary

If your kid's nervous about starting third grade (or you're a kid who just wants to know what they're in for), this is a really comforting little book. Liza's got big plans for third grade maybe she'll finally get the teacher she wants, maybe it'll be her best year yet and then within the first couple days, everything goes sideways in ways that feel totally familiar: a mix-up with a locker, a friendship that's suddenly awkward, and the kind of small embarrassments that feel enormous when you're eight. What I love about this one is that it doesn't wrap everything up with a neat bow Liza figures some things out, but some things are still a little messy by the end, which actually feels realistic for that age. It's short and fast-paced enough that reluctant readers can power through it, and there's a lot of humor mixed in with the "oh no" moments, so it doesn't feel heavy or preachy. It's got a similar vibe to the Junie B. Jones books if your kid liked those but wants something that feels a tiny bit older. A quick, reassuring read that lets kids know third grade might be tricky sometimes, but it's not going to be terrible forever.
