Quick Summary
If your kid loves gross humor and silly mysteries, this one's a winner. The premise is wonderfully absurd alien worms are invading Earth, and the hilariously named B.A.D.D. (Bungling Agents Dedicated to Destruction) might actually be making things worse instead of better and kids will get a kick out of following the chaotic clues to figure out what's really going on. It's a quick read at around 7,000 words with an AR level of 3.1, so it works perfectly for second and third graders who are building confidence in chapter books but still want something fun and fast-paced. The humor is lighthearted and goofy rather than dark or scary, making it a great choice for kids who might be a little sensitive but still want some action and mild peril. Bill Myers has a knack for mixing laughs with actual mystery-solving, so readers feel like they're part of the adventure rather than just watching it unfold. Fans of the "Bailey School Kids" series or other early reader mysteries will likely gravitate toward this one, and it works equally well as a read-aloud for younger kids or an independent read for kids ready to tackle chapter books on their own.
